Go Retire Now!

Find the Best Destination for Your Retirement

Not everyone wants to retire in Florida!  The baby boomers are planning for retirement now, even though they are just beginning to turn 60, and many are considering non-traditional retirement destinations.  Many have retired early, and more than half a million of these retirees travel from their home states each year in search of the ideal retirement destination, whether it be by the water, in the mountains or near the desert.

Retirement is not what it used to be, and you do not have to stay in the same old place to enjoy it.  Today's retirees are researching where they would like to spend the next 25 or 30 years of their lives.  Sometimes, it is in the retirement community down the street, and sometimes it is on a beach half way around the world.  Arizona, Texas and Florida continue to be top retirement choices, but they are not the only options.  U.S. retirees can be found across the globe!
Climate is usually at the top of most seniors' list when they are contemplating  retirement locations, but there are other issues to keep in mind.  Consider the cost-of-living, including local sales tax and property tax rates, and the costs of moving to a new location.  Think about real estate prices verses the cost of renting a home.  Look into health care facilities, safety issues and transportation options.  Consider what kinds of senior services, volunteer opportunities, recreational and cultural activities are available.  If you will be semi-retiring and continuing to work part-time, research the job market.

And once you have chosen the best state for your retirement, you might want to think about retirement communities.  They are not all the same!
